Intertidal habitat assessments are a valuable tool used to determine the overall productivity of the marine environment. In many cases, a baseline intertidal survey is conducted prior to construction works to document the overall species composition, to determine key species present and to help design appropriate compensation structures. Post-construction intertidal monitoring is usually required to determine any damages that may have occurred during construction and to measure the success of any compensatory habitat present.

The staff at M.C. Wright & Associates are both qualified and experienced in conducting intertidal habitat assessments. Using quadrats, transect lines and various other methodologies, we are able to accurately identify the type of habitat present and species utilization, as well as prescribe mitigative and compensation measures to protect the surrounding environment.

Our intertidal surveys can provide information on:

  • Species Composition

  • Population Studies

  • Colonization Rates

  • Species Identification

  • Bivalve Distribution

  • Salt Marsh Characteristics
