M.C. Wright and Associates Ltd. is a 100% Canadian owned and operated biological consulting and software development company centrally located in Nanaimo, BC, Canada. M.C. Wright and Associates’ principal has over 32 years of Fisheries-related experience working for government agencies, private developers, the aquaculture industry and Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast First Nations. We have two registered professional biologists on staff and a comprehensive working knowledge of fisheries biology, environmental management, aquatic restoration, forestry and road/stream crossing work as well as the most recent forest practices codes and regulatory agency legislations and policy. All personnel are familiar with and continue to work in accordance with the applicable industry standards. M.C. Michael C. Wright
Principal, Project Manager, Sr. Biologist
Michael is the owner and manager of M.C, Wright and Associates Ltd. with 32 years of Fisheries-related experience in British Columbia. He began his own Nanaimo-based biological consulting company in 1988. Over the past 27 years as a private consultant, Michael’s innovative vision has grown his company to include marine and fresh water services, GIS mapping and custom software programming.
Michael has hand-selected the software programmers that make up the M.C. Wright Software Development Team and strives to ensure that the company has sufficient flexibility to provide software services to a wide range of clients and disciplines. Michael is the chief liaison for all Software development contracts to ensure a satisfactory end product for every job.
Marine Biologist, GIS Specialist, Assistant Project Manager

Miranda joined M.C. Wright and Associates Ltd. in 2007 and serves as the company’s Lead Marine/Fisheries Biologist. She has been actively working in the field of environmental consulting since 2003, and brings in-depth expertise in the field of aquatic impact assessment and restoration. Certified as a WCB compliant commercial diver, Miranda also serves as the dive supervisor for the company’s marine division.
Having completed Comprehensive GPS Training for Resource Mapping and GPS Field Operator Training as well as an Advanced Diploma in Geographic Information Systems from Vancouver Island University, Miranda has extensive experience with GPS data collection, terrain modelling, spatial analysis and GIS mapping. Her GIS skill set has resulted in the in-house production of high quality, spatially accurate project maps.

Ryan has been with M. C. Wright and Associates since early 2013 and involved in a number of marine and fresh water projects. With past work experience for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada in research and data management, Ryan has brought to our team a strong biological skillset in both the field and office.
Ryan has been certified in the Occupational River Safety Technician program as a Level 2 Technician and has assumed the role as project lead for the environmental impact assessment of a proposed run-of-river hydroelectric project on Vancouver Island as well as has been a key contributor to a number of stock assessment projects.
B.Sc. Geography, Ecological Restoration Diploma
Ian is our newest recruit, joining the M.C. Wright team in 2014. Ian comes with two years of past experience working in the environmental consulting industry. In 2012 he graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor Science degree in geography as well as a diploma in the restoration of natural systems., He is currently working on the completion of an advanced diploma in GIS and Vancouver Island University. Ian is Interest in the field of ecological restoration and gaining a greater understanding of its connectivity to the habitat banking process. Having already assisted with a number of marine and fresh water projects within his first few months on staff, Ian has assumed the role as lead for the post-construction monitoring of a freshwater habitat compensation project near the Burman River. Ian is a certified swift water rescue level 3 technician, dive tender, has completed advanced wilderness first aid training, is an articling agrologist and R.B. Tech in training with the College of Applied Biology.
Fisheries Technician, Safety Officer, Software Training/Support
Jason is an Environmental Professional with 8 years of experience working for M.C. Wright and Associates Ltd. Jason, while also acting as the Safety Coordinator for the company, specializes in the field of Environmental Monitoring for Construction projects including the development of custom sediment drainage management plans, on-site mitigation layouts and professional final deliverable reports. Jason can also contribute to final project deliverables of other projects making use of his AutoCAD design and DVD / Video production skills.
Since 2008, Jason has also been actively involved in the Department of Fisheries and Ocean Canada Electronic Logbook (DFO ELog) Program. Jason is the Sr. Elog Support Technician and each year provides on-site and remote based installation and software support services to commercial fishermen. Jason has also taught a number of DFO ELog training seminars to equip coastal First Nations fisheries staff to manage their own fisheries programs using the DFO ELog software.
Senior Software Developer

Collin has played a key role in the development and support of the ELog program, NCompas Media, NCompas Costing and NCompas Habitat Banking software. He is the lead programmer for the development of a number of mobile applications designed to run on smart phones and tablets for both government and private sector clients. His software development skills successfully transform project visions into software realities. Collin has worked for M.C. Wright since 2008. He has a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Computing Science from the Vancouver Island University.
Junior Software Developer
B.Sc. Computer Science Major
Kevin joined our software development team in 2013 after graduating from the Vancouver Island University in December of 2012. Kevin has lived up to the glowing references we received prior to hiring him; his strong mathematical background meant that he was ideally equipped to develop a much needed program for entering and calculating conventional rod and level survey elevation data. Crew have been using this new tablet-based tool in the field for data collection, replacing paper data sheets and ensuring consistency and, accuracy in our survey data collection. Kevin has played a role in the development of a number of DFO ELog software modules used by commercial, recreational and Aboriginal fisheries on both coasts of Canada. Kevin is also skilled in providing over-the phone and remote technical support and troubleshooting to individual fishers using the software. Kevin conducts much of our internal software testing, ensuring the quality and stability of our product before they leave our door; he has been actively involved in the development of the Recreational ELog mobile application, and continues to assist with the EnviroCheck app and a number of other mobile apps for internal use as well as commercial clients.
